We call these "upside down birds". Ours are a bit different in coloration, but exactly the same in build and character. Very docile and friendly and ours also hang out with chickadees. Such a joy to see a nuthatch from across the continent.

I didn't realize that the western nuthatches were different in coloration. I'll look that up. They are so delightful.
