Forgive the typos - I am the typo queen, after all! "web" not wen, and "Pisaurina mira" not Pisaurina mera. I outdid myself- LOL

They are hers. Nursery spiders make this webbing as a "nursery" for the spiderlings and they stick around until the babies are old enough to disperse. They are close to the wen but not in or on the web. Pisaurina mera is like this, too. Great find:>)

Thanks for all the info Mother Nature (and for the typo corrections). :-)

F/L Everything looks right for your ID - quite large with leg span up to 3 inches? They are beautiful cretures and I love how the Mom's take care of the spiderlings:>) Excellent work, Doris!

Doris Potter replied:

Thanks Mother Nature! I was hoping you would see these photos. I'm not sure of the leg span but she was BIG! When I got up close I saw how beautifully marked she was. There was another "ball" of spiderlings on an adjacent plant and I don't know if they were her offspring or not. I didn't see another mother. Thanks for the comment on the ID.
