Description
This lovely, subtly colored butterfly posed for a long time on this leaf. I found the lighting difficult but thought I would post this photo to show the beautiful markings on its wings. I thought it was a Northern Pearly-Eye but the "Butterflies and Moths of North America" website identified it as an "Eyed Brown".

The markings on this butterfly are so cool. It is like abstract art! I like the lighting, it is very subtle and really shows off the butterfly. The composition is also very well done!
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks Ann! I'm glad you mentioned the lighting because it kept changing from bright sun to overcast and back again and this was the only shot I got while the sun was behind a cloud. I was hoping I had made the right decision to post this one.

Of course, I love this portrait. There are so many cool looking markings on butterflies. Nice and sharp image ,Doris. : )
