My passion is to express Nature's beauty through photography. I am self-taught and like things simple. Thus, photo manipulation is kept to a minimum. The intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings does not need enhancing; only revealing. All photos of wildlife have been taken in the wild and involve no staging. My goal is to bring out the character of an animal ... the essence of a leaf ... the spirit of all Nature. "The Sacred is clothed in fur and feathers and scales and skin - It flashes out from shining eyes in darkened woods - And speaks in bird songs and cicada serenades - It touches a place in me where wildness dwells - A long forgotten, hidden place that shivers in sudden resonance." Hi Rory: I just left a comment on your site and it went through twice - now I see the same thing happened here so I don't feel so bad :-) No, it wasn't a bird sanctuary per se but in an area in the Montreal Botanical Gardens. I think I was able to get so close because of several factors - the birds are used to people, they are young and trusting, and they were very intent on eating. I really appreciate your very kind comment.

Wow! Audubon, Nat. Geo., etc. quality in my book. What a thrill to be that close AND get great photos!
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks for such a wonderful compliment and for your comments on the other photos. I was extremely lucky to have spent at least half an hour with these four hawks with no one else around. These young hawks are the offspring of a couple which took up residence in the Montreal Botanical Gardens and they are often literally surrounded by photographers. I am so privileged to have had this time alone with them.
