I was wondering why I couldn't find this butterfly in my North American field guide. After learning that it is a European Common Blue, I found this write up in Wikipedia: "Recently, this butterfly was discovered in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada by Ara Sarafian, an amateur entomologist who observed the butterfly from 2005 to 2008. He contacted the Canadian National Collection of Insects in Ottawa where the butterfly was identified as P. icarus, a new alien butterfly to Canada and to North America. The butterfly seems to be well established and is extending its range from year to year."
My passion is to express Nature's beauty through photography. I am self-taught and like things simple. Thus, photo manipulation is kept to a minimum. The intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings does not need enhancing; only revealing. All photos of wildlife have been taken in the wild and involve no staging. My goal is to bring out the character of an animal ... the essence of a leaf ... the spirit of all Nature. "The Sacred is clothed in fur and feathers and scales and skin - It flashes out from shining eyes in darkened woods - And speaks in bird songs and cicada serenades - It touches a place in me where wildness dwells - A long forgotten, hidden place that shivers in sudden resonance."
