My passion is to express Nature's beauty through photography. I am self-taught and like things simple. Thus, photo manipulation is kept to a minimum. The intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings does not need enhancing; only revealing. All photos of wildlife have been taken in the wild and involve no staging. My goal is to bring out the character of an animal ... the essence of a leaf ... the spirit of all Nature. "The Sacred is clothed in fur and feathers and scales and skin - It flashes out from shining eyes in darkened woods - And speaks in bird songs and cicada serenades - It touches a place in me where wildness dwells - A long forgotten, hidden place that shivers in sudden resonance." Christy Usilton
Such a beautiful image - I love the way the black anhingas contrast with the white pelicans and how they are all looking together in exactly the opposite direction. How did you talk them into doing this?? ;) The little guys on the left add a really nice dimension. Fabulous shot! VF
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks so much Christy. Many of the things you mention are what made me like the grouping! I wish I did have powers to talk them into doing things. Among the group (but not in the photo) was a Roseate Spoonbill sleeping and it wouldn't raise its head from under its wing! Thanks for the VF. :-)
John Bailey
Wonderful image Doris. I love watching the pelicans march together and fly together. One time in wetlands I heard the sound of rushing water. Turning the corner I saw a mass of these white pelicans marching through the water. It was fantastic. I was so surprised I totally blew the shot! It's nice to visit your great site! v
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks for your kind words John! How wonderful that you saw the pelicans marching through the water (even if you blew the shot)! I didn't know that they did that.
Betty LaRue
Doris, it's been awhile, but I had to stop in and check out your incredible work! I love this one! v/f
Doris Potter replied:
Oh Betty, that is so nice of you to say! Thanks so much! :-)
Carol Senske
V/F This made me smile, it's so typical of low tide in many places with the mix of different birds. You always find the perfect moment - love the pelican just taking off:>)
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks so much Carol. I thought the Pelican taking off added extra interest to the photo. :-)
Fraida Gutovich
This is wonderful Doris!! :)
Doris Potter replied:
Thanks Fraida. You take such wonderful Pelican shots and I was so happy to get this one even though they were at a distance.
